Iron Infusion And Aclasta infusion
Please note that no referral is required in order to have an iron infusion – only recent Hb,Iron Studies and Liver Function Test results are needed.
Optimal vitamine D level is recommeded before Iron infusion
Iron infusion is a short procedure where we inject iron carboxymaltase intravenously over 20- 30 minutes.
We do require a letter from your specialist to administer Aclasta.
Optimal vitamine D, Calcium, good hydration before Aclasta infusion.
possible side effect:
- General: Common: injection site reactions. Uncommon: high temperature, fatigue, peripheral oedema.Exceptionally rare: although exceptionally rare skin staining at the site of injection due to iron leak may be difficult to treat and could be permanent.
- Hypersensitivity: Uncommon: hypersensitivity reactions. Rare: anaphylactoid reactions.
- Vascular: Uncommon: low blood pressure, flushing.
- Gastrointestinal: Common: nausea. Uncommon: vomiting.
- CNS: Common: headache, dizziness.
- Musculoskeletal: Uncommon: muscle aches and pains, back pain, arthralgia. This is usually 24-48 h after the infusion and is short
- Respiratory: Uncommon: shortness of breath.
- Dermatological:Uncommon: itch, urticaria, rash.Uncommon: high temperature, fatigue, peripheral oedema.
- Aclasta infusion , common flu like symptoms, aches and pain, muscle spasms, bone pain for 3 days after the infusion. rare : eye inflammation, arrythmia and renal impairment.
- Common (≥1/100, <1/10), Uncommon (≥1/1,000, <1/100), Rare (≥1/10,000, <1/1,000)
- Skin may be stained if iron accidentally leaks outside of the vein. If could be permanent as it is very difficult to treat. Please speak to your doctor.
